Entering Grade 4 in September 2024 - Late registration open now through September 11, 2024. Please register as soon as possible!
Please note: there is now a waiting list for 4th grade alto saxophone, trumpet, and cello.

Entering Grade 5 in September 2024 - Late registration open now through September 11, 2024. Please register as soon as possible!
5th Grade Students CONTINUING in the instrumental program, including those requesting an instrument/ensemble change

Students hoping to audition for the fall Percussion section may sign up for the Summer percussion program. Please note that placement in the fall Percussion section is NOT guaranteed.

Students hoping to join the PERCUSSION section MUST register on or before September 11th, 2024 in order to be guaranteed a percussion audition. Please scroll down for important percussion audition information below. If you are registering late, please check with Mrs. Brunson to see whether audition slots are still available.

For woodwinds, brass, and string instruments, late registration is offered as long as space is available. Be aware that certain instruments fill up quickly!

On-time registrants will be notified in June of their assignment and needed materials. In September, late registrants will receive their welcome materials, and all students hoping to join percussion will receive detailed instructions for percussion auditions.

Note: Important information regarding Percussion (drums, mallet, and rhythm instruments)

Participants in the Percussion section of the Band are selected by AUDITION ONLY.

The Percussion section requires students to learn "keyboard"-layout mallet instruments like xylophone, as well as several types of drums and many other rhythm instruments, each usually played by only one person at a time. As percussionists, students will regularly be expected to play solo parts independently and accurately. This section must be small in order to have a band with a balanced sound.

Fall 2024 auditions will take place during the week of September 9th through 13th.

Percussion registrants who sign up before September will be sent audition materials approximately one week before the audition takes place. Students may access these materials at any time at this page. Please read the audition requirements and download the audition music (en Espanol aqui).

Gr. 4 students do not need percussion experience, but will be tested on basic musical skills. New Gr. 5 students must play snare drum and mallet instruments at the second-year level to join the section, if space is available.

Current percussion students who meet all first-year curriculum criteria do NOT need to re-audition for grade 5. (Parents will be notified in the event that a re-audition is necessary.)

We typically select for percussion only a small fraction of the total students who audition each year. Please select a second and third choice instrument in case your child is not selected for the percussion section.

Percussion auditions will be scheduled for all interested students who register on or before September 11th, 2024.

We cannot guarantee a percussion audition to students who register after this date.
